Up for your consideration is this sweet miniature antique child’s woven sewing/crocket basket. I’ve enjoyed this piece for years but I am trying to downsize my huge collections. The basket  comes with the provenance that came with it when I bought it.
The card reads “My grandma Candace White Rice made this crocket bag about 1910. She wove the basket part too. Helen”. My further research is Candace was the daughter of Hiram White, and grand daughter of Henry White. Candace was born Aug. 13rd 1842 and died June or July 8th 1920 at Goodman, Mo., or Illinois. This is according to different sites.
Candace was mother to Lurilla (Rice)Mullen (b1864 d 1950), (who’s mother to Helen Arnold Pringle), a daughter Edith Anne (Rice)Steiner b1866 d1934 another daughter Gertrude Candace (Rice) Hawkins b1871 d1947 and a brother Frank Alvin Rice b1873 d1947. Frank Alvin Rice died in Colorado Springs and this is where the basket was purchased. Gilford J Ikenberry was Candace White Rices grandson. Frederick E. White was Candaces brother.
The basket measures top 2-1/4″ tall and approx. 4″ diameter. With the silk bag measures 8-1/4″ tall. I’ve had this in a case since purchasing the basket so is in good condition. The silk bag is done in a beautiful green and orange iridescent type material. The inside the bag is orange. There is a piece of cotton crocheted lace that I assume was done by Candace, but not sure. Has been with the basket since I purchased it. Would be a great gift for yourself, or someone else. A worthy piece and would look great in any basket collection.
